Households searching in North Carolina may encounter Housing Choice Vouchers (often called Section 8), public housing, project-based rental assistance, income-restricted properties and programmes serving older adults, people with disabilities or veterans. These routes are administered through different organisations and do not share one universal application.

How Section 8 works in North Carolina
Housing Choice Vouchers are administered locally by Public Housing Agencies. If an agency uses an online portal, keep your login details secure and make sure your email and telephone number remain current.
Waiting-list placement is not the same as an immediate housing offer. Applicants may need to keep information updated and respond within deadlines when selected for further processing.
Use multiple legitimate housing routes
Do not limit a search to one voucher waiting list. Look at verified assisted properties, public housing, project-based assistance and other income-restricted housing in suitable locations. Property-level contact information can be useful even when current vacancy status must be confirmed directly.
