Social rented housing
These homes are normally let below market rent by a council or registered housing provider. Access commonly starts with a local housing register or another provider-led application route.
England housing guide
This guide explains the local affordable-housing system, the main routes into social housing, housing-provider evidence for the area, and what our current data does and does not prove.
Start here
Affordable housing is not one single waiting list or one type of home. In practice, applicants may encounter council housing, homes managed by housing associations, choice-based lettings, supported or sheltered housing, and affordable ownership or development schemes. Each route has its own eligibility rules, application process and availability.
These homes are normally let below market rent by a council or registered housing provider. Access commonly starts with a local housing register or another provider-led application route.
Where a choice-based system is used, eligible applicants can usually express interest in advertised homes rather than being allocated every property automatically. The official local service remains the source of truth for how bidding works.
Some housing is designed around age, support or care needs. It may use a different assessment or referral process from the main housing register, so it is worth checking the dedicated local route where one exists.
Affordable housing can also include ownership or new-build schemes. These are separate from social-rent stock and may be marketed through developers, housing associations or specialist schemes when homes become available.
Living in Bristol
Local context can help when comparing housing options. These figures are stored from official or official-derived statistical sources and are never fetched while you load this page. Reporting periods vary by dataset.

Crime figures describe police-recorded offences for the stated geography and period. They should not be treated as a simple “safe” or “unsafe” score, and comparisons can be affected by geography, city-centre activity and recording practices.
Find housing
Named housing below is shown only where AHH holds evidence for a specific scheme or development. When we do not hold a named scheme, use the official local search and application routes immediately below rather than treating recorded stock as available homes.
We currently hold 6 evidenced property or development locations for Bristol. Click a card for its evidence, provider/contact route and local area. A scheme being listed here does not by itself mean a home is vacant today.

Housing updates
We can email you when the housing information we track here materially changes, including new evidenced housing schemes, application information and meaningful housing-route updates.
Application guide
The safest starting point is to identify which route matches your circumstances, then use the official application service. Affordable Housing Hub explains the route here; the responsible housing authority or provider makes the eligibility and allocation decision.
Who operates locally
These organisations are included because RSH or provider evidence indicates activity or stock presence in this English local-authority area. The list is more useful than a national directory, but it is still not a live vacancy list.
Before you apply
Exact requirements vary, so always follow the current official application form. As a practical starting point, applicants are often asked for information that proves identity, household circumstances, current housing situation and local connection or housing need where relevant.
This checklist is general guidance, not a statement of the local authority's current eligibility rules. The official application route above controls what is actually required.
Urgent housing need
Do not wait for an ordinary affordable-housing search if you have nowhere safe to stay or are at immediate risk of losing your home. Use the local authority's homelessness and housing-advice route so your circumstances can be assessed through the appropriate process.
Local amenity evidence is still being assembled for this guide. We do not widen the radius or substitute generic national results just to fill the section.
Evidence and methodology
Affordable Housing Hub combines regulator and government evidence with official housing-service and provider-owned public information. We deliberately keep known housing stock, provider activity and current availability as separate facts so historic or regulatory evidence is never presented as a vacant home.
