Eligibility is scheme-specific

There is no single UK-wide test that guarantees access to social housing. Immigration or residence status, age, household circumstances and scheme rules can affect eligibility, while local qualification rules may also apply.

Prepare documents

Common requests include proof of identity, addresses, household members, income, tenancy or housing circumstances and evidence supporting medical, welfare or safety needs. Only send sensitive documents through a verified official channel.

Describe your housing need accurately

Give complete, current information and explain circumstances relevant to the allocation policy. Do not exaggerate: authorities can verify information and may require supporting evidence.

After submission

Keep the reference number, monitor messages, respond to evidence requests and report material changes. If refused or awarded a priority you believe is incorrect, use the review route stated in the decision.
